With the advent of COVID, there is multitude of increase in cyber crimes. Awareness and stricter laws are the need of the hour. Not everything can be achieved by our authorities, we are ought to be more aware and diligent while transacting online or just being online.
One such crime has been recently committed in Gujrat Rajkot in early June, was committed by delivery partner of an e-commerce. (Name not disclosed). As per complaint, one Ms. Goswami purchased two pair of shoes, to be delivered at her address and that of her parents. One of purchases was returned and money was refunded back in her wallet. The delivery Partner/accused called her saying he wanted to take pictures of the product for keeping track, she allowed. Thereafter, he asked her to share OTP which she would receive on her mobile. She provided the same. Two days later, she found that her registered mobile number has been replaced with another number and money has been utilised for purchasing products and delivered on accused address. Police has registered a complaint against the accused under section 46 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.
In conclusion we not only need more stricter laws also awareness drives to educate local public regarding the crimes and what to do and what not.
